Sumner and Soccer

Thanks to all the friendly faces who stopped by my booth at the Sumner Arts Festival. I always enjoy this show - it's a long two days, but it seems to go fast when there's so much to see, sell and buy. On my breaks (thanks to my hubby watching my booth now and then) I checked out the stores. Fall merchandise was out and I could smell the spiced apple, pumpkin pie and other scented candles and potpourri coming into the street air from the various storefronts. It was fabulous, and reminded me that school is about to start. Fall is close behind. The grass is already slowing down its growth. Time for enjoying warm fires, sweaters, hot coffee and evenings with family and friends indoors.

It also means soccer, and lots of it. Both my daughers play. My youngest has a tournament this weekend and I will be there in my folding chair just like last year. It has started. For those soccer moms out there, you know what I mean. Practices, carpools, games and tournaments, extra laundry, photos, lost socks, and chatting with other parents amidst cheers for our kids as they shoot for the goal. It's all worth it. Give your soccer star a cute picture pendant when they win their first game or make it through their first tournament. Or maybe put one away for their stocking this Christmas. Let me know. They are popular right now.

FUSION Show

Many thanks to all who came out to the FUSION show and stopped by my booth. This show is always so much fun to do. The weather was questionable at first, but my husband looked it up online by the hour and by 5pm it was sunny. Sure enough, they were right and the evening turned out perfectly. I have yet to do that show without full sun. It's fun to watch people show up in their fancy outfits and even outrageous costumes. Yes, this is the place you can get away with it. All the while we were listening to broadway showtunes (this year's theme was "Give My Regards to Broadway" until the live auction began. Please check out what FUSION is all about at http://www.fusionfederalway.org/. It is a wonderful cause to get homeless women and children back on their feet again. They provide transitional housing for one year.

One highlight for me was my brand new earring displays courtesy of my husband. (thanks Honey) We repurposed some old shutter doors from the Reharvest Center in Tacoma, cut them in half, sanded and painted them black, put a back stand on them for support, and now I have a fabulous new display for my earring cards that hang perfectly. I can get many more pairs on display and it provides great height on my table. No more backaches trying to find that perfect pair! I'm trying to redo the look of my booth and make it more consistent. My goal is Euro-Gallery. How does that sound? I bet you've never seen it before. It all started with my Mona Lisa print that I put jewelry on and bring to every show. Everyone loves her and it brings many smiles from passers by. Her smile is even more clever now that she is sporting her jewels. You can see her at the bottom of my events page. http://www.sarahjaned.com/events.htm. I'll keep you posted on my booth. Next is Sumner Arts Festival. I'll be there Friday and Saturday this weekend 8/7...10-9pm and 8/8...10am-7pm.

Shows this Week

Hello friends,

Just a quick note to let you know I have been working my tail off getting ready for my shows this week. They say to stop producing a week before your shows to let yourself rest, relax and get in a calm state ready to sell. Well, I can't say I've mastered that just yet. I'm more likely to be up until midnight the night before a show still cranking out more and more goodies for you to browse on my tables. I just can't help it. My husband is good at helping me shut down.

Anyway, this week there are two shows and lots of new designs to check out. I hope you stop by and find something beautiful for yourself or as a gift. I will be posting more and more designs to my site as the holidays approach. It is so much fun coming up with new ideas. They never seem to stop coming (which is a good thing), but keeps me very busy.

August 5th...3-9pm (one of my classiest and favorite shows to do each year)
FUSION www.fusionfederalway.org
You will need a ticket to get into this show, but it includes dinner, a live and silent auction and entertainment. And it's all tax deductible towards a very special cause to benefit homeless women with children. Plus you can dress up to the nines if you enjoy that-this year's theme is Give My Regards to Broadway!

August 7th...10am-9pm
August 8th...10am-7pm

SUMNER ARTS FESTIVAL www.sumnerartsfestival.com Booth #120
This is my 4th year in this show. Lots to do so bring the whole family. Food, music and entertainment, plus downtown Sumner has its Annual Sidewalk sale, which means in addition to the vendors (like moi) on Main Street, all the stores will stay open late and have special deals. Pencil it in on your calendar for fun this weekend.

Hope to see you there. I always enjoy seeing the friendly and familiar faces that stop by my booth. Now back to making earrings...

Cruise to Alaska

Hello there friends, sorry for the delay. I just got back from another week long cruise to Alaska on the Norwegian Star courtesy of my generous in-laws. They have taken us on this cruise three times with other family members, and it has been wonderful. I highly recommend this cruise for people living in Seattle area. There are many last minute deals to be found as they try to fill the last few rooms in the ship. A simple email was what it took for us to find a great balcony room. Typically the weather is like our spring or fall, but this trip was unusually hot, but just right around the mid 70's and 80's. I came home to the heat wave we were having here in Seattle area, where it even reached 104 (very rare for this area).

It is a fabulous trip and you WILL overeat at the buffets and restaurants around the ship, not to mention the chocolate buffet featured once during the trip with ice sculptures and all the chocolate you can possibly pack in, but you can burn it off in the gym or spa, so have fun! My girls had a blast in the kids program which is secure and highly structured so that they beg to go back. You check them out whenever they need to eat or go ashore with you or swim or do whatever. This gives you couple time to enjoy late shows, the spa, casino or just relax. There are no rules - that is the beauty of Norwegian Cruise lines. You eat whenever and with whomever you please. I might as well work for them. They did not pay me for this endorsement, but I'm happy to give it.

The parts of Alaska we saw: Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, plus Prince Rupert, Canada very much reminded me of parts of the San Juans and other places around the Pacific Northwest. It is so beautiful and seeing the glaciers and icebergs floating all around the boat is breathtaking. The ship is well equipped as are the crew to know the safety limits of the boat and how far to go into the glaciers before they turn around, so put all thoughts of Titanic aside. There are many excursions you can go on in Alaska when you reach port other than seeing the town and shopping. Take a helicopter over the glacier, zipline through a rainforest, mush with a husky team, ride a train through the hills, or pan for gold. We did this twice and the kids loved finding a few gold flakes which you get to keep after you pay to pan. Where else can you walk over a bridge and watch fisherman pulling in 3-4' long trout that you can see teaming in the water below?

The ship itself has so many acitivties at all times so that you cannot possible do them all. Comedy shows, newlywed games, broadway style shows in the big theatre each night, a casino, spa, fitness center including free seminars, body analysis, yoga and pilates classes, bingo, art auctions, movie theatre, onboard shopping sales on jewelry and other goodies, music all around the ship to your taste, karaoke, dancing, game room, library, ice cream bar, and more. Save your pennies and go if you can. It is lots of fun!
